Theodor II (Pope)
Theodor II (* in Rome ; † around November 897 ) was Pope of the Catholic Church for 20 days in 897 . Not much is known about his pontificate . What is certain is that the native Roman was elected successor to Romanus in November 897 . In the same month, the "peace-loving man," as he is called in the sources, died.
Despite his very short term in office, Theodore II managed to sort of order the turmoil in Rome that had caused his predecessors. He convened a synod that repealed the resolutions of the synod of corpses of 897 and rehabilitated the posthumously violated Pope Formosus .
The mutilated corpse of Formosus, found by a hermit , was brought to Rome with full honors and buried in Saint Peter .
