Theodor Josef Seifert (born September 29, 1932 in Bochum ; † December 6, 2007 in Cloppenburg ) was a German architect .

Life

Seifert was born as the son of the married couple Berta and Theodor Seifert. He obtained his Abitur in 1953. Before that, he had two and a half years of building experience. 1953 to 1958 Seifert completed a degree in architecture at the Technical University of Darmstadt . Before graduating, he received first prize in a competition to develop ideas for contemporary forms of living, and then a research contract from BM Bau. Seifert became assistant to Ernst Neufert . He then worked as a freelancer in several architecture firms and went on study trips to Russia and Scandinavia.

Seifert completed his studies in 1958 with a degree in engineering . After that, Seifert worked as a freelance architect in Darmstadt from 1959. In the competition for the city center of Lappeenranta (Finland) he was awarded 2nd prize. He participated in the development of assembly houses made of steel and plastic together with the architects Manfred Georg and Gerd Heid.

In 1961 he received the 2nd prize in the competition for the town hall of Darmstadt and in 1975 the 1st prize in the competition of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia for the design of the Essen town hall .

From 1975 to 1977 he designed the Luisencenter on Luisenplatz (Darmstadt) . He was also responsible for the architectural design of the tunnel under Wilhelmienstraße, which had a positive effect on traffic management in the center of the city center.

In 1958 Seifert founded the architectural office Seifertplanung .

Since then, several hundred projects have been planned and carried out, 30 of which have won awards. Seifert planning yielded since then, planning, consulting, monitoring and project management services in all areas of construction, interior and urban design, as well as the local, regional and state planning.

Seifert Planning was responsible for the following segments of construction planning and implementation :

  • Office and administration buildings, public buildings
  • Commercial buildings (department stores, shopping centers, hotels, etc.)

  • Urban planning

  • School and industrial buildings
  • Health care buildings

The Seifert planning yielded the following basic services of the specifications:

Among other things, Seifert planned and built the Darmstadt waste-to-energy plant in the 1990s and renovated the Hackesche Höfe in Berlin in the 2000s .
