Theodor Laasch

Theodor Laasch (born April 23, 1894 in Oldenstadt , Uelzen district, † December 8, 1956 in Hanover ) was a German Lutheran theologian and from 1936 to 1956 regional superintendent of the Calenberg district of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanover .

Life

After studying theology, Laasch attended the preachers' seminary in Loccum Monastery from 1921 to 1923 and was ordained on May 18, 1923. In the same year he became assistant chaplain in Duderstadt , in 1925 pastor there, before he took over the training of young pastors in 1929 as conventual studies director in the Loccum monastery. During the church struggle, Laasch was appointed episcopal vicar and belonged to the inner circle of advisors and employees of regional bishop August Marahrens . In February 1935, Laasch was appointed episcopal vicar for the Calenberg-Hoya district and in 1936 was appointed the first state superintendent for the Calenberg district in Hanover. At the same time he held the third pastor's position at the Trinity Church in Hanover. Laasch was a member of the board of directors of the Pestalozzi Foundation. During the Second World War he also served as a parish pastor .

In 1946 Laasch became a convent of the Loccum monastery. After the war he temporarily took over the pastoral care of prisoners of war in England. He was significantly involved in the preparation and implementation of the first German Evangelical Church Congress and the conference of the Lutheran World Federation in Hanover. To deepen relations with the Lutheran churches in the United States, he made a trip to North America.

From 1953 to 1956 Theodor Laasch was provisional head of the Office for Community Service . In 1954 Laasch became a member of the Church Senate .

Two years later he died as a result of an operation and was buried in the monastery cemetery in Loccum next to the grave of Marahrens.
