Theodor Lingke

Johann Theodor Lingke (born November 21, 1720 in Torgau ; † April 10, 1801 there ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Lingke was a son of the electoral Saxon chamberlain and administrator Moritz Lingke. After initial school lessons at home, Lingke visited the state school gate . He then completed a degree in theology in Wittenberg , which he completed with a master's degree and finally a doctorate . In 1745 Lingke took up his first position as the second deacon of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Torgau. In 1760 he was appointed archdeacon and in 1768 superintendent of Torgau.

On December 13, 1795, Lingke celebrated his 50th anniversary in office, where he was presented with many honors and with various treatises and poems written in his praise. In 1800 he retired. When he died, Lingke left a wife, three sons and three daughters.

He was not only an excellent expert on oriental literature, but also in many heterogeneous sciences such as B. skilled in the art of music. He also invented a new instrument, the “steel game”. Lingke was also active as an author of sermons, but also several writings on the history of the Torgau church and town.
