Theodor Mauritz

Theodor Mauritz (born December 9, 1862 in Uerdingen ; † 1944 ) was a German industrialist . For many years he was chairman of the supervisory board of the Dortmund Actien brewery .

Life

Theodor Mauritz was born as the son of Kommerzienrat Heinrich Mauritz, one of the four founders of the Dortmunder Actien-Brauerei (DAB). After graduating from high school in Moers in 1881, he studied law and political science at the universities of Heidelberg , Lausanne , Geneva and Berlin . In 1885 he was at the University of Goettingen to the Dr. jur. PhD. From 1885 to 1886 he served as a one-year volunteer in the Guard Cuirassier Regiment and later became a reserve officer in the Cuirassier Regiment "Graf Gessler" (Rheinisches) No. 8 in Deutz. After his legal clerkship, which he completed at the Kammergericht , he became a government assessor in 1892.

After the death of his father in 1894, he resigned from the civil service in 1895 and moved to the supervisory board of the Dortmund Actien brewery, of which he became chairman. When he died in 1944, Otto Mauritz, a long-time member of the supervisory board of the Dortmund Actien brewery, succeeded him as chairman of the supervisory board. Under Theodor's aegis, the brewery's output had increased more than fivefold from around 150,000  hectoliters to over 770,000 in 1930, while other breweries were closed or, in some cases, taken over by DAB.

Furthermore, Mauritz was chairman of the supervisory board of the Tremonia brewery F. Lehmkuhl AG in Dortmund. He belonged to the supervisory boards of the Dormagen brewery. Becker & Co. , the Aktienbrauerei Rinteln , the Barmer Bankverein and the Mannesmannröhrenwerke AG . He was a member of Aktien-Baugesellschaft Ürdingen , managing director of H. Propfe & Co. mbH in Hamburg and chairman of the mining board of the Heinrich colliery in Überruhr .
