Theodor Niebel

Theodor Niebel (born November 5, 1905 in Recklinghausen ; † August 10, 1974 ) was a German psychiatrist who was involved in " child euthanasia " as part of the Nazi murders .

Life

Niebel completed by the end of his school career, a degree in medicine and a doctorate at the University of Hamburg Dr. med. His dissertation "Experimental attempts to improve the air in air raid shelters " was published in 1936.

The NSDAP stepped Niebel on 1 May 1937th Niebel then initially worked as an assistant doctor at the Dortmund-Aplerbeck institution .

Due to public unrest due to the rising number of deaths, the - euphemistically called - " children's department " was relocated from the youth psychiatry (St. Johannesstift) in Niedermarsberg under the direction of Werner Sengenhoff to the Dortmund-Aplerbeck institution in December 1941 and to the newly created "children's ward for the specialized Treatment of mentally ill children up to the age of 14 ”. The psychiatrist Niebel now took over the management of the “children's department” in Dortmund-Aplerbeck. By May 1945 about 225 children died in the “children's department” in Dortmund-Aplerbeck, among other things as a result of fatal luminal gifts .

After the end of the war, Niebel was not denazified as a simple party member . He continued to work in his place of work and was not prosecuted legally. Promoted to senior medical officer, Niebel retired in 1968.
