Prunella Jane Ransome (born January 18, 1943 in Croydon , Surrey , England , † March 4, 2002 in Suffolk , England) was a British actress .

Life

Ransome began her acting career in 1967 with a role in the British miniseries Kenilworth alongside Jeremy Brett . She made her feature film debut in the same year in John Schlesinger's drama Die Herrin von Thornhill alongside Julie Christie , Terence Stamp and Peter Finch . For her portrayal of Fanny , she received a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1968 . In her next feature film, Clive Donner's historical film Alfred the Great - Vanquisher with David Hemmings , Michael York and Ian McKellen , she played the leading female role. From the early 1970s, she was increasingly seen in British television productions such as Gene Bradley in a secret mission and The 2 . Her last film roles were a supporting role in the British western A Man in the Wilderness and the female lead in the Spanish horror film ¿Quién puede matar a un niño? .
