Theodor Steinar (born February 13, 1847 in Breslau , Kingdom of Prussia , † March 12, 1919 ibid) was a German theater actor and director .

Life

Steinar, son of a businessman, also completed an apprenticeship as a businessman. On the occasion of a guest performance by Emil Devrient in Breslau, his enthusiasm for the acting profession was sparked. He decided to become an actor after completing his military service. After he was enlisted, he took part in performances of soldiers, among other things before the king in Berlin. The applause that he received for his performance strengthened his desire to act.

But before he could finally devote himself to the acting profession, the German War of 1866 broke out. From this he returned badly wounded.

After his complete recovery he went to the Dresden Conservatory and became a student of Devrient. After completing his training, she gave him a recommendation for the Schwerin court theater. There he was engaged after a guest performance. In 1870 he went to Hamburg, in 1871 first to Leipzig and then to Prague. There he made his debut on August 29, 1871 as "Leopold" in "Anna-Liese". He did not leave Prague until 1880 and worked at the Nuremberg City Theater in 1881, at the Vienna City Theater in 1882 and in Brno in 1883. In 1884 he went to the United States at the New York City Theater for a year . He also had guest appearances in various US cities, such as B. Baltimore or Philadelphia . In 1885 he became the artistic director at the Belle Alliance Theater in Berlin. From 1886 to 1890 he was again in Nuremberg, there as a director and actor. From 1891 to 1893 he was then chief director at the Stadttheater Preßburg, then in the same capacity for a year in Olomouc, from where he was engaged at the Residenztheater in Berlin. He worked there from 1895 to 1897. In 1898 he returned to his hometown, where he worked as an actor and director at the city theater until his stage farewell in 1901.
