Theofanis Kakridis

Theofanis Ioannou "Fanis" Kakridis ( Greek Θεοφάνης Ιωάννου Κακριδής ; * August 25, 1933 in Athens ; † January 8, 2019 ibid) was a Greek classical philologist .

The son of the classical philologist Ioannis Kakridis studied classical philology at the universities of Thessaloniki , Mainz and Tübingen . He received his doctorate in 1960 in Thessaloniki. From 1959 to 1964 he worked in Tübingen as a lecturer for modern and ancient Greek. In 1964 he became professor of classical philology at the newly founded University of Ioannina , where he taught until his retirement in 2000. He was President of the State Scholarship Foundation and Vice President of the Pedagogical Institute of the Ministry of Education.

His scholarly interests centered on epic poetry from Homer to the late poets of the Greco-Roman period and Attic drama, particularly Attic comedy. In addition to his academic work, Kakridis was active as a columnist and as president of the Center for Odyssey Studies of Ithaca .
