Theophilus of Corte
Theophilus von Corte (born October 30, 1676 in Corte on Corsica , † May 19, 1740 in Fucecchio , Italy ) was a Franciscan and priest . He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church.
Life
Theophilus joined the Franciscan order at the age of 17 and was later ordained a priest. From 1703 he lived in retreats in the order province of Rome and founded others himself in 1731. Theophilus worked as a moral theologian and people's missionary. In the last years of his life he was a superior in the monastery in Fucecchio.
He was on January 19, 1895 by Pope Leo XIII. blessed - and by Pope Pius XI. canonized on June 29, 1930 . He is the patron saint of Corsica. His feast day in the liturgy is May 19th .
