Therese Šip
Therese Šip ( August 15, 1883 - September 28, 1969 ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and social worker.
Life
Šip was already politically active as a teenager. After the " Anschluss of Austria " to the Third Reich in March 1938, she helped threatened people to avail themselves of opportunities to flee from the National Socialists. She stood up for the poorest in society all her life. From 1946 to 1959 she headed the welfare office in the 6th district of Vienna . She was district councilor in Mariahilf for 31 years and only withdrew from this position at the age of 80.
Commemoration
In 2004 a park was named at the intersection Linke Wienzeile with Brücken- or Mollardgasse in Therese-Sip-Park . The park was laid out by the vocational school for horticulture and floristry .
