action

The young Tatar woman Tanja is the only one who survived a cruel persecution and was only allowed to stay alive through an act of grace by Igor from the warring tribe of the Balas. Since then she has been brought up in Igor's camp in the fighting spirit of his tribe. During an attack, Igor and his men encounter the hordes of the "Black Tatars" near the remains of a destroyed village. Because the two parties cannot agree on the fair distribution of the booty, Chief Malok challenges Timur to a duel. Timur is defeated, but his opponent generously gives him his life. At the victory celebration, Malok is so fascinated by Tanja's beauty that he desires her fiercely. But she rejects him, but at the same time lets herself be impressed by his powerful charm.

Igor's younger brother Chagatai is accepted into the ranks of those eligible for arms. This inspires him to want to conquer the legendary city of Kvarizim. Together with Timur and some brave warriors, he sets off. However, the company is doomed to fail. Timur returns to his tribe with only a few people. Now Igor is determined to use all his warriors to storm the city; but the plan fails again. Igor dies in battle.

Now Kathierma is in charge of the Balas tribe. He and his archers choose Tanja as their queen. Malok is delighted about this, believing that under the weak leadership of a woman, the Balas would have no chance of being able to oppose the “Black Tatars”. Sure of victory he attacks the Balas. Although he manages to capture Timur, Tanja is smart enough to lure the opponents into a trap and turn the tide. Badly wounded, Malok flees. When Tanja caught up with him, he asked for death at her hand. But she confesses her love to him.

Due to the many fights, food has become scarce among the Balas. They only see one way out: to take the Kvarizim fortress. With Tanja at their head, they storm off. However, they are too few to be able to win against superior enemy forces. Malok and his “Black Tatars” come to their aid, and in alliance with them they finally succeed in victory.

Tanja has got tired from fighting so much. She becomes Malok's wife and from now on only wants to be there for him.

criticism

The lexicon of international films succinctly notes that the film is "unnecessarily cruel in the style of Italian colossal films."
