Thiess Büttner

Thiess Büttner (* 1966 in Kiel ) is a German economist and professor of economics at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg . He has been Chairman of the Independent Advisory Council of the Stability Council since 2018. From 2015 to 2018 he was Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board at the Federal Ministry of Finance .

Life

He received his doctorate in 1997 from the University of Konstanz with a thesis on regional labor markets and completed his habilitation in 2003 at the University of Mannheim with essays on fiscal federalism. From December 1997 to November 2004 he worked as a scientist at the Center for European Economic Research in Mannheim in changing positions, since 2003 as head of research in the field of corporate taxation and public finance. From December 2004 to September 2010 he was CESifo professor for economics, especially finance, at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and headed the public sector at the Ifo Institute, Munich. Büttner has been at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg since October 2010 . Longer research stays took him to the University of Kentucky (2001) and the University of Oxford (2009).

From 2008 to 2012 Büttner was chairman of the committee for regional theory and politics of the Verein für Socialpolitik .
