Frederick Ried Roos (born May 22, 1934 in Santa Monica , California ) is an American film producer and casting director .

Life

Roos began his career in the film business as a casting director in the mid-1960s. Until the early 1970s, he was mainly active for various television series, including the tennis rackets and cannons (1966/1967) and the Andy Griffith Show (1966–1968). In the 1970s he was involved in various cinema productions, for example American Graffiti (1973). The film The Godfather (1972) marked the first collaboration with Francis Ford Coppola .

In the 1960s he also began working as a film producer. In 1974 he was active as a co-producer of Der Dialog and Der Pate - Part II . For the latter, he, Gray Frederickson and Coppola were awarded the Oscar for Best Picture . Since then, Roos has been the producer of Coppula's films. In this position he also works with Sofia Coppola . In 1980, she received an Oscar nomination for Apocalypse Now in the same category.

In 2006 he was a member of the jury of the Berlin International Film Festival .
