Thijs Berman (born September 26, 1957 in Coevorden ) is a Dutch politician ( PvdA ).

Life

Berman grew up in the province of Groningen. His maternal grandfather was the leading PvdA politician Marinus van der Goes van Naters.After studying acting in Maastricht, he turned to psychology, where he obtained a bachelor's degree from the University of Utrecht in 1983 and a master's degree from the University of Amsterdam in 1987. Then he was a correspondent in Paris and Moscow for the Dutch Radio 1 and Radio Wereldomroep , as well as for the Dagblad and Elsevier . He presented many radio and television programs, especially for the IKON broadcaster. He has been a member of the European Parliament since 2004 . For the European elections in 2009 he was chosen as the top candidate of his party. Berman was also an election observer in Ukraine in 2004 and in Ethiopia in 2010 . As a MEP, Berman chairs the delegation for relations with Afghanistan and is a member of the Conference of Delegation Chairs , the Development Committee and the Subcommittee on Human Rights .
