Thilo Hofmann

Thilo Hofmann (born November 10, 1967 in Celle ) is university professor for environmental geosciences at the University of Vienna . He teaches and researches in the fields of hydrogeology , pollutant behavior , biochar , environmental behavior of natural and technical nanoparticles and microplastics .

Life

After studying geosciences at the University of Giessen , at the Free University and Technical University of Berlin , he graduated with honors in 1995. He did his doctorate summa cum laude at the University of Bremen under Horst D. Schulz in aquatic chemistry on the topic of colloid-bound pollutant transport. After his assistantship at the University of Mainz , a visiting professorship in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) and at Stanford University (USA), he completed his habilitation in geology in 2002. In 2005 he was appointed professor at the University of Vienna, where he heads the working group of the same name and the Department of Environmental Geosciences. From 2012 to 2016 he was Dean of the Faculty of Geosciences, Geography and Astronomy at this university and has headed the Environment Research Association of the University of Vienna since January 2015 . Since January 2017 he has also been Adjunct Professor at Duke University (USA).
