Loki hits Thiazi

Thiazi (at times also described as Thjazi , Thjalzi or Thjaffi and Thiassi ) is a giant , often referred to as a storm giant or frost giant in Germanic mythology . He is the son of Olvaldi , father of Skadi and lives in Thrymheim , a fortress in Asgard . Idi and Gang are considered his brothers. He is mainly known for the kidnapping of the Germanic goddess Idun , who is mentioned in the Haustlǫng and the Snorra Edda .

Legend of Thiazi

In the sagas and legends of Germanic mythology, the following stories are known about the giant Thiazi: One day Thiazi turned into a large eagle and flew to Midgard , when he arrived he saw Hönir , Loki and Odin , who were roasting an ox over the fire. He offered to help with the preparation and when the meal was finished he took the best pieces. Loki, annoyed by this, hit him with a stick. Thiazi grabbed the stick with Loki and swung himself into the air. For his release one had to promise to bring Idun and her apples of youth to him. Loki lured Idun to him with a lie. When the gods saw that Idun and her apples, which kept the gods' youth, had disappeared, they suspected Loki and ordered him to bring them back. Loki turned into a hawk and flew to Jotunheim, where he turned Idun into a nut and took her with him. Thiazi noticed and took up chase as an eagle. Shortly above the walls of Asgard , Thiazi was killed by the gods by burning his wings.

Thiazi's eyes

As a penance to intervention, Odin later transformed Skadis, Thiazis's daughter, whose eyes into two stars. This star, also called Auguthjaza , is a Nordic constellation of stars that is the only one that is mythologically named and known. However, it is not known which stars in the night sky form this constellation.
