Thiazi.net was a German - speaking right - wing extremist Internet forum, which was founded in 2007 and previously represented the German-speaking part of the Skadi.net forum. It was named after the giant Thiazi , who came from Germanic mythology . The predecessor was the website WPMP3 , which later merged with the Sturmseite to form the National Forum , before being incorporated into the Skadi.net forum in 2004. Thiazi.net had over a million forum posts from more than 20,000 members and ran on a server in the United States . It was considered the largest German neo-Nazi platform and described itself as the "largest Germanic world network community". After several arrests, the website was no longer accessible in mid-June 2012. The domain was taken over by the non-profit association Gegen Vergessen - Für Demokratie . This association uses the domain to disseminate information on the subject of right-wing extremism .

Content and structure

The Thiazi.net forum was a forum divided into several areas. The largest area was the so-called "public area", which could be viewed without registration. The range of discussions there ranged from unimportant everyday topics such as daily politics, cooking recipes, film reviews and everyday tips to topics with articles relevant to criminal law such as the Holocaust (topic: Holocaust, Fraud of the 20th Century? ), Which the majority of the registered users denied has been. Their claims were approved with corresponding historical revisionist information. The same applies to the depiction of the outbreak of the Second World War (subject title: Did Hitler want war? ) And other postings that put the historical role of the Third Reich in a relativising light. Theses that are generally considered conspiracy theories or topics with approaches that do not stand up to recognized scientific standards were also to be found in large numbers . There were also discussions about the direction of Germany after the assumed "takeover" or debriefings about national actions and marches.

Another criminally relevant area was the so-called “dealer area”, which was used to a large extent to sell indexed music, which mainly consisted of RAC and other music from the right-wing extremist spectrum. The often inflammatory texts were also published again separately. Such music was also found in a download area, where users continuously added indexed albums and thus made them available for free download. Also available were writings and videos by historical revisionists, propaganda writings from the Third Reich on topics such as the German people, the Jews , " racial studies " and much more. Every registered member had access to this area; at least a donation of five euros had to be made to use it.

Another area that could only be viewed by registered members was the so-called "NSPF" ( National Socialist Private Forum ). This served to offer those who saw themselves as National Socialists a discussion platform that could not be used by members of the Thiazi Forum who belonged to a different political point of view. The topics partly overlapped with those from the public sector, but usually dealt with the culture of life and political thinking and action that were understood as National Socialist.

Neither visitors nor registered members were able to see some of the sub-forums that had been set up by members and that could only be accessed with a direct invitation and activation. These sub-forums were organized according to specific topic complexes which were of particular interest to the invited members.

The Thiazi Forum was financed through banner advertising by nationally-minded mail-order companies and voluntary donations from members, who thereby received special rights (access to the less frequented Asgard area, the download area or the amusement arcade) and extras such as an enlarged mailbox. Due to the legal situation in Germany, a bank account in England was used, which also led to a house search in England during the wave of searches in 2012.

Publicity

The Thiazi Forum has been the subject of criminal investigations since 2009. Even anti-fascist organizations and people watched the forum and presented partially criminally relevant content determined. In order to enable criminal prosecution, the main focus was on the moderators and department supervisors , which led to a wave of outings of many of the corresponding people. In the course of this, one of the outgoing moderators was publicly indignant in the Thiazi forum about the methods and his statements after false suspicions of the Antifa and tried to prove this by publishing his e-mail address, which was different from the address given in relation to it was specified by the Antifa. However, the Antifa managed to hack his moderator account at Thiazi.net using the email address he provided. This gave her access to the forum's internal moderator area. The result was several publications of discussions there by the moderators about processes and users of the forum on left-wing political websites such as indymedia . The "NSPF" was also published, although it has always been freely accessible to every registered member. In addition, there were also contributions that were made invisible to the public and allowed conclusions to be drawn about the identity of a member who, according to the presumptions , showed himself to be a member of the NPD . The Chemnitz public prosecutor then launched an investigation into an NPD local politician for denying the Holocaust.

Due to its activities, the forum moved more and more into the focus of the public and the press. The Frankfurter Rundschau wrote that there “on hundreds of pages right-wing users” exchanged “whether they 'believe' in the Holocaust and how it could be publicly refuted 'without criminalizing themselves”. The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported that right-wing extremists openly discussed the purchase of weapons and "sub-races", denied the Holocaust and threatened ex-members. Spiegel Online described the side of the right-wing extremist scene as "a powerful propaganda and networking instrument" which, in addition to exchanging right-wing extremist ideas, also served as information and mobilization. Many neo-Nazis had agreed to “march here” or “found their way into the organized scene”.

Investigations

In 2004 and 2006, the international forum platform Skadi.net , from which the German-speaking area emerged, was mentioned in the report on the protection of the constitution . The Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons put Thiazi.net on 27 September 2007, among other things because of "glorification of Nazism " and "relativization of war crimes" on the list D of youth-endangering media.

According to the Federal Criminal Police Office , the website has been in the sights of investigators since 2009. On June 14, 2012, 24 apartments and business premises in eleven states and the UK were searched. The focus was on Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Baden-Württemberg , as the two alleged main responsible persons of the forum - an educator and a housewife - live there. The 26 defendants is accused of more than 2,400 song lyrics and more than 1,400 sound recordings that in many ways the offense of sedition to have offered to meet, for download. There were arrest warrants against four accused . According to a spokesman for the Rostock public prosecutor's office, which is investigating the suspicion of the formation of a criminal organization , one of the accused is a leading NPD member. The President of the German Federal Criminal Police Office, Jörg Ziercke , said the raids were "a clear message to the operators of comparable Internet forums". The BKA will "consistently pursue the spread of right-wing extremist and xenophobic ideas as well as the glorification of National Socialism" and have "further intensified its efforts to combat xenophobic crimes on the Internet".

The neo-Nazi information portal Altermedia put investigation files against the alleged operators of the forum online.

November 2014 was the first Thiazi process four operators, three men and a woman, the Forum before the District Court Rostock sedition in several hundred cases, and forming a criminal organization accused.

Three years later, in November 2017, in the 2nd Thiazi trial, three other operators of the forum were also indicted before the Rostock regional court for sedition, formation of a criminal association, use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations and dissemination of propaganda materials of unconstitutional organizations. Arnulf Priem , a defendant in this trial, did not appear in court at the start of the trial, so an arrest warrant was issued against him.
