Sharon Cuneta

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sharon Gamboa Cuneta (born January 6, 1966 in Pasay City ) is a Filipino actress and television presenter. She is considered one of the best singers in the island state and is known as the mega-star of the Filipino showbiz .

Life

Personal data

Cuneta's mother is from Pampanga and her father was the mayor of Pasay City for over four decades .

Their partnership in the film Dear Heart with the Regal Films love affair, Gabby Concepcion, made the two of them into the dream couple of Filipino cinema in the mid-1980s, in front of and behind the camera. Later, when she was 19 years old, the two married civilly and on September 23, 1984 in church. One of the main sponsors (Ninong) of their marriage was the then president and dictator Ferdinand Marcos .

In April 1985, Sharon gave birth to their daughter Maria Kristina Cassandra Concepcion (KC Concepcion for short). However, the marriage with Gabby did not last long and, as there is no divorce in the Philippines, was annulled in 1987.

Sharon Cuneta has been married to Senator Francis Pangilinan since 1998 and gave birth to their second daughter Simone Francesca Emmanuelle (Frankie for short) in November 2000 and their third daughter Mariel Daniella Sophia (Miel) in September 2004.

Career

She first appeared in the hit lists in 1978 when she stormed the Philippine charts with the song Mr. DJ at the age of 12 . The song became known nationwide and earned her the title DJ's Pet (DJ Kuscheltier), which was also the title of her first album.

More hit albums followed. In the early years, Cuneta was offered many film music titles of the time, which led to her becoming one of the country's first movie soundtrack stars .

At the age of 15 she made her film debut in the 1981 film Dear Heart with the young star Gabby Concepcion for the studio Sining Silangan Productions . Following the success of Dear Heart , she was subsequently cast in more than 50 films, earning a box office magnet and the title of Box Office Queen between 1985 and 1993 .

Her early films featured the poor little rich girl cast . After that, the producers decided to change their roles to the poor get rich type. Although she grew up in an influential, politically oriented family, she was able to inspire both the country's upper class and the Filipino masses with her intelligence, her humor and her down-to-earth character.

At an early age, she began to prove her moderation skills together with other young talents in various shows. Her musical variety show TSCS, The Sharon Cuneta Show , which aired between 1985 and 1997, was one of the longest running television shows in the Philippines.

Sharon's success at work continued and was not confined to the Philippines alone. She was z. B. the first Filipino artist whose concert filled the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium to the last seat, first in 1988 and also in her 2005 concert. She sang in front of a “standing room only” audience in which even the spaces between the seats were occupied by the audience. Her tour poster is on display in the Shrine's Hall of Fame, next to stars like Michael Jackson , Barbra Streisand and Sheena Easton . She impressed the former mayor of Los Angeles Tom Bradley so much that after attending a concert he felt compelled to award Sharon with the Honor Key of the City of Los Angeles.

In 1990, she sang a duet with the famous star from Hong Kong , Andy Lau , with whom she the song In Your Eyes , composed by Jim Brickman , brought out worldwide.

In 1996 she made the Grand Slam of the Filipino film industry with the film Madrasta , in which she played the role of a loving stepmother. Sharon is one of the few actors, along with Nora Aunor and Vilma Santos, who has received all of the major awards in Filipino film in her career.

The "Grand Slam" consists of: The Star Awards for Movies , the People's Choice Award from the Film Academy of the Philippines, the Gawad Urian , awarded by Manunuri Ng Pelikulang Pilipino and the FAMAS (Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences).

In 2004, Sharon was recognized as Best Actress at the Brussels International Film Festival for her film Crying Ladies , in which she played Stella Mate, a convicted, divorced, single mother who struggled on the streets of Manila . Together with two other friends, she finally takes a job where she cries at Chinese funerals for money and does everything to be able to provide for her son.

On January 6, 2006, she returned to the spotlight on her 40th birthday with the show Ang Pagbabalik Ng Bituin (roughly translated as the return of a star ). After that, she started a new talk show called Sharon . She is now considered one of the highest paid entertainers in the Philippines.

Her fans call themselves Sharonians .
