The Thode Iceland is a small and icy island in the Marshall archipelago before Saunders Coast of the West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . In the Sulzberger Ice Shelf , it is 1.5 km northwest of Benton Island and 6 km east of Przybyszewski Island .
The United States Geological Survey mapped them using the United States Navy's own surveys and aerial photographs from 1959 to 1965. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1970 after George C. Thode, a meteorologist at Byrd Station in 1968.
