Thom Castañeda

Thom Castañeda (born February 12, 1982 in Grins ), actually Thomas Castañeda Ancheita , is an Austrian composer and pianist .

Life

As the son of a Mexican immigrant from Chiapas and a Tyrolean woman, he began playing the piano at the age of six and the organ at the age of twelve. Various humanities studies followed at the Leopold Franzens University Innsbruck and the University of Vienna with a degree in musicology . Although he received piano lessons as a child, his compositional work can be classified as self-taught. He is the founder of the Donauwellenreiter ensemble (composition, arrangement, piano, producer) and is also active in the field of composition for theater, performance and TV. He also appears regularly as a piano accompanist, e.g. B. with the Vienna Boys' Choir or as part of his own "Live Karaoke" event, where he and amateurs get involved in a performative happening.
