Thomas-Emil von Wickede

Thomas-Emil von Wickede (born April 23, 1893 in Verden ; † June 23, 1944 near Waldbach ) was a German officer , most recently a general of the infantry in World War II . He comes from the noble family Wickede .

Life

Wickede joined the Imperial Army on September 2, 1913 as a flag junior. He served as an officer in the First World War . After the war he switched to the Reichswehr and worked as a commander and general staff officer in various units. In the Wehrmacht he led the 30th Infantry Division as commander during World War II . In 1941 he was promoted to colonel . In 1943 Wickede took over the X Army Corps as commanding general . On June 23, 1944, he and Colonel General Eduard Dietl were ordered to meet with Hitler at the Berghof . On the way there, their Junkers 52 aircraft crashed on the Styrian side of the Hochwechsel , in Waldbach-Breitenbrunn. Generals Karl Eglseer and Franz Rossi died with them . Her death was initially kept secret for propaganda reasons.
