The Thomas Island is a large island of Highjump Archipelago , that of there in the center north Bunger Hills off the coast of the East Antarctic Wilke country is. It was mapped using aerial photographs from Operation Highjump (1946–1947).

The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the island in 1955 after Randolph G. Thomas of the United States Navy , hydrograph in Operation Windmill (1947-1948), who was also active as a geodesist for the astronomical observation teams.
