Thomas Bourchier (* 1404 ; † March 30, 1486 in Knole House , near Sevenoaks ) was Archbishop of Canterbury , Lord Chancellor and Cardinal .

He was the second-born son of William Bourchier, Earl of Eu († 1420) and Anne of Gloucester , daughter of Thomas of Woodstock, 1st Duke of Gloucester .

Bourchier graduated from Oxford University . In 1433 he became Bishop of Worcester . He then became Bishop of Ely in 1443 . In April 1454 he became Archbishop of Canterbury , in March 1455 Lord Chancellor of England . In 1467, Bourchier was made cardinal by Pope Paul II and the following year made cardinal priest of San Ciriaco alle Terme Diocleziane . In 1475 he took part in the peace negotiations between England and France ; in 1483, together with the other dignitaries, he ensured that Richard III. instead of his nephew Edward V became king. After his overthrow, the eighty-year-old anointed and crowned the new King Henry VII. He was unable to carry out any further actions during the coronation.

Bourchier was buried in Canterbury Cathedral.
