Thomas Chenery
Thomas Chenery (* 1826 in Barbados , † February 11, 1884 in London ) was an English orientalist .
Chenery studied at Eton College ( Eton ) and Gonville and Caius College ( University of Cambridge ). After graduating, he worked as a lawyer for some time. Over time one became aware of his research in the field of oriental philology and in 1868 this brought him a teaching position as “Prof. of the Arabic Language ”at the University of Oxford .
In parallel, Chenery also became a member of Christ Church College . In 1870 he was appointed as one of the auditors for a new authorized translation of the Old Testament . The Royal Asiatic Society also made him its honorary secretary.
