Thomas Christians

Thomas Christen (born February 6, 1975 ; resident in Wynau ) is a Swiss politician . He was General Secretary of the Social Democratic Party until spring 2012 . Today he is a personal assistant to Federal Councilor Alain Berset .

Christen did his Matura in Latin and English from 1990 to 1995 at the canton school at Burggraben in St. Gallen . From 1995 to 2002 he studied law at the University of St. Gallen and graduated with a thesis on European security and asylum policy.

Christen was General Secretary of the New European Movement Switzerland from June 2000 to November 2002 and then in the SP's campaign team until December 2003. From February 2004 to July 2004 he was campaign manager and then, as head of the campaigns and communication department, deputy general secretary from August 2004 to September 2005. On September 1, 2006, he became General Secretary of the SP.

Christen has a son (* 2011) and lives with his partner, the SP politician Ursula Wyss , in Bern.
