Thomas Drescher (church musician)

Thomas Drescher (* 1955 ) is a German Catholic church musician and from 1995 to 2018 head of the Institute for Church Music of the Diocese of Mainz .

biography

Thomas Drescher studied school and church music in Heidelberg, Mannheim and Freiburg. Organ studies followed, u. a. with Heinz-Markus Göttsche, Hermann Schäffer and Zsigmond Szathmáry. In 1982 he passed the A exam for Catholic church music.

From 1983 to 1991 he was district cantor of the Archdiocese of Freiburg for the Odenwald-Tauber region and church musician for the parish of St. Martin in Tauberbischofsheim. He is the founder of the "Tauberfränkische Kantorei".

In November 1991 he was appointed to the Institute for Church Music of the Diocese of Mainz, of which he has been head since July 1995. He works as an organist in the city of Mainz and directed the Christian-Erbach-Choir Gau-Algesheim in 1997/1998 . As an organist, singer and conductor he has participated in concerts and CD productions. In December 2018 he was retired by Bishop Peter .
