Thomas Günther Eder (born December 25, 1980 ) is an Austrian football player who can be used both in defensive midfield and in central defense.

Career

Eder began his career at Salzburg AK 1914 and moved from the youth team of the Nonntaler to that of Austria Salzburg . There, his development showed steadily upwards and so the left-footed player finally played his way into the professional squad of the three-time Austrian champions via the youth and amateur team.

The defensive midfielder is known for his tough long-range shots and was considered a great talent in Austrian football. In 2003, the young Salzburg also convinced the then team manager Hans Krankl by his skill and celebrated on 7. June 2003 in the embarrassing 0: 1 defeat in the European Championship qualifier against Moldova in Tiraspol his debut in the national team.

In the following years, however, Eder was less and less in the starting line-up of the fighting team and was finally loaned out to SV Ried for one year in 2005 to collect match practice. In June 2006, Thomas Eder extended his contract at SV Ried for one year with an option for another year. In the 2006/07 season Eder made 27 missions and scored one goal, but could not really assert himself in the team and switched to FC Wacker Innsbruck for the coming season (2007/08) , where he signed a contract for two years .

But the midfielder did not make it into the starting line-up in Innsbruck either, scoring two goals in 18 games for the Tyroleans. His contract was terminated on January 17th, 2008 by mutual agreement. Eder then returned to his homeland Salzburg and the regional class. He moved to SV Grödig in the Regionalliga West and fought there for the club's promotion to the First League , which he also managed in 2008. In January 2009, his contract with Grödig was terminated.
