Thomas Eisenhut (also Eisenhuet, Eisenhuth , baptismal name Tobias ; * May 23, 1644 in Augsburg , † November 4, 1702 in Kempten ) was a German composer, conductor, organist and music teacher.

Live and act

Thomas Eisenhut was also baptized in the name of Tobias. He was the oldest son of the Augsburg beer brewer and innkeeper Hans Eisenhuet. His mother Anna b. Neuenmair came from an Augsburg milling family. The Gasthof Zum Eisenhut at the Augsburg fruit market existed from 1649 to 1920. It is assumed that Thomas Eisenhut, like his brother, attended the Jesuit grammar school in Augsburg. In 1664 he entered the Augustinian Canons' monastery ( St. Georg Monastery ) as a novice . He was ordained a priest there and worked as an organist and choirmaster. In addition, as Canonicus regularis, he was responsible for the musical lessons of the boys. He composed his work Musicalisches Fundament for the classroom, it is a work of elementary music theory and contains solmization exercises . In 1677 he was appointed collegiate bandmaster of the Prince Abbey of Kempten ( St. Lorenz Collegiate Church ). Despite being recalled to Augsburg, he remained there until the end of his life.
