Thomas Günther (economist)

Thomas W. Günther (born February 14, 1961 in Augsburg ) is a German economist and has held a chair for internal accounting and operational / strategic controlling at the TU Dresden since 1996 .

Career

After graduating from high school in 1980, he completed military service until 1981 and then studied economics and social sciences in Augsburg until 1986. Until 1994 he was a research assistant and assistant at the chair for auditing and controlling at Adolf G. Coenenberg , University of Augsburg and received his doctorate in 1990. rer. pole. From 1992 to 1994 he carried out an Excellence in Electronics project with McKinsey and Stanford University . From 1994 to 1996 he taught at the chair for corporate accounting at the TU Dresden. In 1996 he completed his habilitation at the University of Augsburg, with corporate value-based controlling being the focus of his research. Since 1996 he has held the chair for corporate accounting / controlling at the TU Dresden. In 1999 he also accepted a call from the Vienna University of Economics and Business and in 2007 from the EBS University of Economics and Law Oestrich-Winkel / Wiesbaden.

Since 1986 he has been a lecturer in managerial and executive training for various companies and organizations. From 1991–1992 he was project manager for the development of the strategic simulation STRAGA on behalf of PIMS Associates Ltd. (London), the university seminar for economics (Cologne), and the Handelsblatt publishing group.

Since 2001 he has been head of the working group value-oriented management in medium-sized companies and a member of the working group intangible values ​​in accounting at the Schmalenbach Society. 2001–2002 and 2006 he was Visiting Professor at the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA, USA). Since 2004 he has been a member of the board of the Schmalenbach Society for the connection of theory and practice, advice and coaching of medium-sized companies, listed companies and public institutions in the design of their controlling systems. From 2003 to 2005 he was Chairman of the Accounting Commission. In 2007 he represented the advisory board of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology for the project "Pilot testing of a toolbox of immaterial values ​​in medium-sized businesses by corporate client advisors".

He is married to Edeltraud Günther ; Holder of the chair for business administration, especially environmental economics at the TU Dresden.
