Thomas Grundnigg

Thomas Grundnigg (born April 20, 1977 in Salzburg , Austria ) is a professor at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences , where he heads the Management & Producing department of the MultiMediaArt course. He also teaches at the Art University Linz and the Mozarteum in Salzburg. His work focuses on the areas of cultural evolution and rhetoric. Grundnigg has been a board member and manager of the ExpertsCluster Education at designaustria since 2018.

Life

Grundnigg studied media art in Salzburg (1996–2001) and has worked as a graphic and multimedia designer since his studies. In 1998 he took part in the International Workshop for Cities, Design and the Internet at Berkeley University and the Politecnico di Milano . In 2003 he was an additional animator in the team of Virgil Widrichs Fast Film and together with the Vorarlberg artist Karl-Heinz Ströhle he created video works that received international attention.

Grundnigg has been teaching at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences since 2008, where he was appointed Senior Lecturer and Head of Department in 2012. In 2013 he received the Erhard Busek Prize for Intercultural Exchange for his commitment in Southeast Europe. Grundnigg has been a lecturer at the Salzburg Executive Academy since 2017, and since 2018 he has also given lectures at the Linz Art University and the Mozarteum University in Salzburg.

He is a member of the interdisciplinary research group TRACE (Transmission in Rhetorics, Arts and Cultural Evolution) around Heiner Mühlmann , Gerhard Blechinger and Thomas Grunwald and has been a doctoral candidate at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal since 2016 . After a stay at the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford University in summer 2018, Grundnigg brought the University Innovation Fellows Program of the d.school to the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences as Primary Faculty Champion. At the end of the same year he was elected to the board of designaustria .
