Thomas Helbling

Thomas Helbling (* 1961 in Bern ) is a Swiss lawyer and has been a director of the Swiss Insurance Association since 2017.

life and career

After successfully studying law at the Universities of Bern and London , Helbling first worked as a lawyer, then joined Federal Councilor Adolf Ogi and his successor Samuel Schmid as a personal assistant from 1998 . In 2001, Helbling took on the role of project manager for the joint application by Switzerland and Austria to organize the 2008 European Football Championship .

At the end of 2002, Helbling resigned from the organizing committee and became head of the public affairs department at the private insurer Swiss Life . At the same time he became a member of the board of the Swiss Football Association , responsible for security. In this function, Helbling campaigned for the legal anti- hooligan measures to be tightened.

After the election of Vice Chancellor Corina Casanova as the new Federal Chancellor at the beginning of 2008, Helbling was appointed the new Vice Chancellor in February and took office on June 1. As head of the Federal Council , he and his 115 employees were responsible for the preparation and follow-up of the official meetings of the Federal Council; The following were also subordinate to him: the Legal Section, the Competence Center Official Publications and the Central Language Services of the Federal Chancellery.

Thomas Helbling has been Director of the Swiss Insurance Association SIA, the umbrella organization for the private insurance industry, since 2017 .
