Thomas JC Chen

Thomas JC Chen (陳經銓) (* 1955 ) is a Taiwanese diplomat in retirement .

Career

In 1999 he was deputy head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ottawa , and later he headed the Consulates Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Taiwan) in Taipei . From September 2013 he represented the Taiwanese governments in Mbabane and Lobamba ( Swaziland ). The People's Republic of China's offensive one-China policy resulted in many African countries giving up diplomatic relations with Taiwan in favor of the People's Republic, including the government in Ouagadougou ( Burkina Faso ) in May 2018. Chen thus headed the last official diplomatic mission Taiwan's in Africa.

On June 22, 2018, Chen suffered a stroke and was treated in a hospital in South Africa .
