Thomas Köhler (psychologist)

Thomas Köhler (* 1949 in Unterwössen ) is a German psychologist , physician and mathematician .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1969, the son of a doctor studied medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich until 1975 and obtained his doctorate. The title of his doctoral thesis was "Determination of the global and regional residual volume of the lungs with 133 xenon taking into account the radiation attenuation in the tissue". He worked as a doctor and studied psychology (diploma in 1978) and later mathematics (diploma in 1981). According to his own statement, he completed his mathematics studies from "Sportiness: Can I do it or I can't?" -Situation interaction by means of individual analysis methods ".

Köhler worked as a research assistant at the psychological institutes of the Universities of Düsseldorf and Würzburg , and in 1984 he took up an assistant position at the Psychological University of Hamburg University . There he submitted his habilitation in 1990 and was appointed associate professor in 1997. His main research interests include the person and work of Sigmund Freud , intoxicants such as alcohol , mental disorders, biopsychology , psychosomatic illnesses and statistics .
