Thomas Katz

Thomas J. Katz (born March 21, 1936 in Prague ) is a Czech - American chemist . In 2009 he retired from Columbia University .

life and work

Katz emigrated to the USA in 1940. He studied chemistry at the University of Wisconsin and Harvard University , where he in 1959 Robert B. Woodward with the work The Mechanism of the Diels-Alder reaction doctorate was. His academic career began that same year at Columbia University as an instructor. He continued this with his appointment as Assistant Professor in 1961 and Associate Professor in 1964. Sloan Foundation from 1962 to 1966 and a Guggenheim grant from 1967 to 1968 . He was made a Fellow of the American Association for Advancement of Science in 1993 and received the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award from the American Chemical Society in 1995 .
