Thomas Kirchhoff

Thomas Kirchhoff (* 1960 in Iserlohn ) is a German guitarist and university lecturer in Detmold .

Artistic career

Thomas Kirchhoff (guitarist) studied at the Musikhochschule in Dortmund and from 1986 to 1987 privately with David Russell . Since 1986 he has given more than 1000 concerts in over 40 countries around the world. In addition to his work in the Amadeus Guitar Duo with his wife Dale Kavanagh , Kirchhoff also played for many years in the Duo Ars Vivendi with the flautist Dors Dietz . Kirchhoff has released 16 CDs so far (Hänssler Classic). Cover stories with him have appeared in many national and international music magazines (Fono Forum, Guitar & Lute, Classical Guitar, American Record Guide, Guitart Magazine, Musikblatt, Akustic Guitar).

Many composers have dedicated their works to Thomas Kirchhoff, including works for two guitars and orchestra by Gheorghe Zamfir , Harald Genzmer , Gerald Garcia , Carlo Domeniconi , Christian Jost and Jaime Zenamon . Works for flute and guitar and for the Amadeus Guitar Duo were composed for Thomas Kirchhoff by Martin Herchenröder , Peter Michael Hamel , Roland Dyens , Carlo Domeniconi, Jaime Zenamon, Stepan Rak , Stephen Dodgson and Christian Jost.

Kirchhoff taught guitar and subject didactics from 1999 to 2004 at the Musikhochschule Dortmund and has been teaching at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold since 2004 . In 2006 he was appointed honorary professor by the university's senate .

Organizational activity

In 1992 Kirchhof founded the International Guitar Symposium Iserlohn , which today is one of the world's most important guitar festivals with over 220 participants from 50 countries and over 4000 visitors. Since 2005 he has also organized the Acadia Classical Guitar Festival in Wolfville ( Canada ), which has also developed into one of the most important guitar festivals in North America.
