Thomas Mauer (also: Mawer, Maur, Mawerius, Tribulensis Silesius ; * 1536 in Triebel , † August 10, 1575 in Lüneburg ) was a German Protestant theologian and Latin poet.

Life

Mauer had enrolled at the University of Wittenberg on May 12, 1556 , where he acquired a good knowledge of Latin, Greek and Hebrew languages, and on February 10, 1558, he completed the academic degree of a master's degree. In 1559 he appeared as a Latin poet with a book that he presented to Emperor Ferdinand . In 1560 he became rector of the school in Aschersleben , soon afterwards he went to Zerbst in the same position and in 1565 he became rector of the St. Michaelis School in Lüneburg. Here he married Margareta, the daughter of Lucas Lossius . In 1570 he was ordained in Rostock as pastor of St. Michaelis Church in Lüneburg and in 1571 Superintendent of the Diocese of Verden and the Diocese of Lübeck .

In this capacity he took part in the convent in Mölln , negotiated in Celle about the Wittenberg catechism and took the side of the Gnesiolutherans in the original sin dispute . In 1573 he carried out the general visit to Verden Abbey and installed David Huberius in the position of Superintendent of Verden. Above all, however, Mauer has made a name for himself as a poet.
