Thomas Nowotny

Thomas Nowotny (born June 13, 1937 in Vienna ) is an Austrian political scientist, diplomat and author. Between 1970 and 1975 he was secretary in the office of Federal Chancellor Bruno Kreisky , and since 1994 he has been a lecturer at the University of Vienna .

Life

Nowotny completed his bachelor's degree in American Studies at Hope College Michigan in the Fulbright program in 1959 , followed by a doctorate in 1960 at the law faculty of the University of Vienna . From 1962 he was in the Austrian diplomatic service and, in his function as an Austrian diplomat, headed the policy department of the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs for ten years . Between 1970 and 1975 he was secretary in the office of Federal Chancellor Bruno Kreisky . Between 1978 and 1983 Nowotny was Austrian Consul General in New York. From 1997 to 2000 he was Senior Political Counselor at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London, from 1993 to 1996 Consultant at the OECD in Paris. Between 2000 and 2009 Nowotny worked for the Austrian development bank AWS .

Nowotny is the author of numerous articles and books, including the recent books Strawberries in Winter - Global Trends and Global Governance and Diplomacy and Global Governance . His last book Das Projekt Sozialdemokratie was published in November 2016.

Personal

Thomas Nowotny is married to Eva Nowotny , a diplomat and former ambassador. He has a daughter and two grandchildren.
