Thomas Popp

Thomas Popp (born November 8, 1961 in Schweinfurt ) is a German administrative lawyer and political official . Since December 20, 2019, he has been State Secretary for Digital Administration and Administrative Modernization of the Kretschmer II Cabinet in the Saxon State Chancellery .

Life

Popp completed a law degree . The fully qualified lawyer began his professional career in 1992 as a lecturer at the Bavarian Civil Service College in Herrsching , before moving to the Technical College of the Saxon Administration in Meißen in 1997 . Between 1998 and 2004 he was project coordinator of the Free State for the development of the performance comparison between tax offices in tax administration and acted as head of department in the tax office Freital.

In 2004 Popp took over the position of head of the Freiberg tax office, and a year later he moved to the Saxon State Ministry of Finance , where he became Head of Organization and Automation and Data Protection for the tax administration . In 2010 he took over the management of the Oberfinanzdirektion Chemnitz, in 2011 the office of President of the State Office for Taxes and Finances . At the beginning of 2015 he moved to the Saxon State Chancellery , where he headed the central department. In this function he took over the chairmanship of the commission for the comprehensive evaluation of the tasks, personnel and equipment of the Free State of Saxony. On April 10, 2018, Popp became head of the Saxon State Chancellery. In this role he was responsible for the management of the “Nationwide organizational planning, personnel strategy and administrative modernization” department. On August 1, 2018, he was appointed as the representative for information technology of the Free State of Saxony.

In the course of the formation of the Kretschmer II cabinet on December 20, 2019, Thomas Popp was appointed State Secretary and member of the Saxon state government for digital administration and administrative modernization.
