Thomas Putze
Thomas Putze (born February 7, 1968 in Augsburg ) is a German sculptor and performance artist .
Life
Plaster first completed an apprenticeship as a landscape gardener. From 1990 to 1991 he worked on development projects in Guatemala before he began studying theology in Wuppertal and from 1995 worked as a freelance illustrator and musician . During this time he founded the band The Chill . From 1997 he studied at the Free Art School in Stuttgart . In 2003 he moved to the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and studied sculpture with Werner Pokorny and Micha Ullman . In 2005 and 2006 he received a graduate scholarship from the state of Baden-Württemberg.
Plaster's works were purchased by the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart , the Forum Kunst Rottweil and the LBBW Collection.
Above all, Plaster creates animal sculptures from wood, which he works with a chainsaw. He writes about his choice of topics: I suspect that my pig sculptures would be ineffective both in the viewer and in me without the background of experience with real pigs. When I am interested in animals, I immerse myself in the impression of the wild creature, the artistic work is like an emergence into the usually somewhat more inhospitable reality of the material and myself. In his performances at exhibitions, Putze describes his thoughts on the concept of art: ... Art is one of the last opportunities to discover something in this society. - … further development is destruction and a new beginning . - … Life without art would only be two-dimensional for me .
