Thomas Römer (theologian)

Thomas Christian Römer (born December 13, 1955 in Mannheim ) is a Swiss-German Protestant theologian, Old Testament scholar and ancient historian at the University of Lausanne and at the Collège de France in Paris. In 2019 he was elected head of the college by the professors of the Collège de France.

From 1974 he studied theology and Semitic languages ​​at the universities of Heidelberg and Tübingen. After receiving his doctorate in 1988 ( Israel's Fathers. Investigations on Fathers' Issues in Deuteronomy and the Deuteronomic Tradition ), he taught at the University of Geneva , and from 1993 as full professor of the Hebrew Bible at the Faculty of Religious Studies and Theology in Lausanne. Since 2007 he has also held the professorship for Milieux Bibliques at the Collège de France.
