Thomas Rhebart

Thomas Rhebart , also Thomas Rebart (* unknown; † July 1570 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a printer in Jena and Frankfurt.

Together with his son-in-law Tobias Steinmann , he published the Jena Bible by Martin Luther . In addition to funeral sermons , he also published those by Nikolaus von Amsdorf . The first independent prints by him can be found from 1558. In 1565 he married the widow of the printer Weigand Han Katharina geb. Intz, who is also a daughter of the printer Christian Rödinger the Elder. Ä. was. Initially, he worked for this as a type foundry and typesetter or as managing director in its retail bookshop. He ran his printing works in Jena from 1558 to 1570 and in Frankfurt am Main from 1565 to 1570. In the meantime, he printed from 1566 to 1567 in Gotha .

Rhebart was buried on July 28, 1570 in Frankfurt. His wife Katharina and his heirs continued to run the publishing house after his death. As with his son-in-law Steinmann and then his heirs, his importance as a publisher lies primarily in the publication and distribution of Reformation writings.
