The Thomas River ( Montagnais name: Utshashumeku-shipiss ) is an approximately 70 km long right tributary of the Naskaupi River in the central east of Labrador in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .

River course

The headwaters of the Thomas River lies at an altitude of about 470  m . The Thomas River flows through a number of lakes in the upper reaches. It flows in an arc: initially to the west, then to the north and finally to the east. Salmon Lake (Utshashumeku-nipi) is located on the course of the river between river kilometers 6 and 15 . The Thomas River finally flows into the west bank of Naskaupi Lake , which is a river widening of the Naskaupi River. The catchment area covers an estimated 350 km². It borders in the north on that of Seal Lake and in the south on that of the Red Wine River and in the southeast on that of the Wapustan River .
