Thomas Rommelspacher

Thomas Rommelspacher (born March 5, 1947 in Erle , Borken district ) is a German sociologist with a doctorate , a qualified planning scientist and interim politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ).

Education and professional activities

After graduating from high school in 1966, Thomas Rommelspacher studied social sciences from 1966 to 1971 at the Ruhr University in Bochum . He completed his studies in 1971 with a thesis on the Ruhr coal district settlement association . From 1971 to 1981 he worked as a city planner and sociologist in independent planning offices. In 1981 he received his doctorate from the Free University of Berlin with a thesis on the crisis in the Ruhr area. Rommelspacher worked from 1982 to 2000 at the University of Duisburg, now Duisburg-Essen, as a sociologist specializing in urban and regional sociology. In 1994 he qualified as a professor in the field of planning science in the urban planning / landscape planning department at the University of Kassel. From May 2005 to May 2011 Thomas Rommelspacher was Head of Planning and Deputy Regional Director at the Ruhr Regional Association (Essen).

Thomas Rommelspacher was a member of the SPD from 1966 to 1968. Since 1987 he has been a member of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen. From 2000 to 2007 he was spokesman for the Essen district association. From August 1999 to June 2000 he was the spokesman for the Ruhr Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen district association. From 1985 to 1999 he was a member of the Essen City Council for the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen parliamentary group.

From June 2, 2000 to June 2, 2005, Rommelspacher was a member of the 13th state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia , which he entered via the state list. He has been a member of the Education and Science Union since 1969 . From 2011 to 2014 he was deputy chairman and press spokesman of the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) North Rhine-Westphalia.
