Franz-Josef Brüggemeier

Franz-Josef Brüggemeier (born March 7, 1951 in Bottrop ) is a German historian .

Life

Brüggemeier studied history, social sciences and medicine. In 1982 he received his doctorate from the University of Essen with a thesis on the history of the Ruhr miners. 1983/84 he worked as a doctor. From 1983 to 1994 he worked as a historian at the Fernuniversität Hagen , where he completed his habilitation in 1994 with a study on air pollution in the 19th century. From 1995 to 1998 Brüggemeier taught as a historian at the University of Hanover . Since 1998 he has been professor for economic and social history at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg . In the summer semester of 2012, Brüggemeier was Sven Beckert's professor at Harvard University (Cambridge / Mass.) When he was at the University of Freiburg as part of a cooperation program.

Bruggemeier's research interests include German and British history of the 19th and 20th centuries, environmental history and the history of sport .

He is a member of the German Academy for Football Culture .
