Thomas Schaarschmidt (sports official)

Thomas Schaarschmidt (born November 18, 1975 ) is a German basketball official .

Life

Schaarschmidt, who comes from Dessau , came to basketball in October 1992 through a school league, but soon turned away from playing and, thanks to Gunther Schmidt's encouragement, devoted himself to basketball officials. He was a founding member of BV Dessau 93 in 1993 and was a member of the association's board for a decade. From 2009 he joined the successor club BC Anhalt Dessau and later took over the office of chairman.

In 2002 Schaarschmidt also worked for the Basketball Association of Saxony-Anhalt, initially as a press attendant and then as deputy chairman. In 2012 he was elected to the office of chairman of the association. In January 2020, he also became Deputy Chairman of the Thuringian Basketball Association .

In his main job, he has been managing director of the Leipzig Ralf Rangnick Foundation since the beginning of 2019 , after previously working as a journalist.
