Thomas Schmitt (born April 11, 1973 in Saarbrücken ) is a German politician ( CDU ).

education and profession

Schmitt grew up in Körprich . After graduating from the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium Lebach in 1992 , he studied law at the Saarland University . Following his first state examination in 1997, he completed his community service at Caritas in Nalbach . His legal clerkship was followed by the second state examination in 2000. After that he was a member of the government council in the Saarland Ministry of Economics until 2004 .

politics

Schmitt has been a member of the CDU and the Junge Union since 1992 . From 1994 to 1998 he was district chairman of the Junge Union Saarlouis . Since 1994 he has been a member of the regional board of the Junge Union Saar. He has been a member of the local council of the CDU Körprich and the municipal council of the CDU Nalbach since 1992. He has also been a member of the Saarlouis CDU district executive since 1999.

From 1994 to 1999 he was a member of the Körprich local council. In September 2004 he was elected to the 13th state parliament of Saarland . There he is represented on the Justice Committee, the Economic Committee, the Submissions Committee and the Education, Culture and Science Committee.

On March 8, 2017, Thomas Schmitt was elected by the Trier City Council as the new Head of Culture (Department III with the areas of responsibility for culture, tourism, law, security and order).

Personal

Thomas Schmitt is Roman Catholic and single. Since 2003 he has been chairman of the Dillingen Madrigal Choir. In addition, since 2004 he has been deputy chairman of the Kreischorverband (formerly Sängerkreis) Saarlouis and vice-president of the Saarland Choir Association (formerly Saar-Sängerbund).
