Thomas Smith (politician, before 1782)
Thomas Smith (* before 1782 in Pennsylvania , † January 29, 1846 in Darby , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1815 and 1817 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Smith's date of birth and his exact place of birth have not been recorded. Nothing is known about his childhood and youth or his schooling. He lived in Tinicum , Delaware County . Politically, he became a member of the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton in the late 1790s . He was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1806 and 1807 .
In the 1814 congressional election , Smith was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded William Anderson on March 4, 1815 . Until March 3, 1817 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . From 1815 he lived in Darby. At the time of his death on January 29, 1846, he was justice of the peace there.
