Thomas Sokoll

Thomas Sokoll (born January 8, 1954 in Essen ) is a German historian . His research focus is the early modern period .

Scientific career

Thomas Sokoll has been studying history and social sciences at the University of Münster since 1972 , where he passed the first state examination in 1977. In the Protestant parish of Essen-Schonnebeck he did his community service in 1978/1979. He conducted research in Cambridge on a scholarship from the DAAD and the German Historical Institute in London (1980–1984) and then completed a legal clerkship in Essen (1984–1986). In 1989 he graduated from Cambridge University with the work Household and family among the poor. The case of two Essex communities in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries . In 2002, Sokoll acquired the license to teach modern history with a special focus on the early modern period at the FernUniversität Hagen with a habilitation. There he has been teaching since 1986 as an academic senior counselor and since 2000 as an adjunct professor (since 2007) in the field of history and the present in Old Europe.
