Thomas Stanley, 2nd Baron Monteagle

Thomas Stanley, 2nd Baron Monteagle ( May 25, 1507 - August 25, 1560 ), was an English peer .

He was the son and heir of Edward Stanley, 1st Baron Monteagle , from his second marriage to Elizabeth Vaughan. When his father died in 1523 he inherited him as 2nd Baron Monteagle .

In his first marriage he married Lady Mary Brandon († 1544), daughter of Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk around 1528 . After the death of his first wife, he married Helen Preston († before 1571), widow of Sir James Leyburne, in his second marriage. From his first marriage he had a son, William Stanley , who succeeded him in 1560 as 3rd Baron. He also had a daughter, Anne Stanley, who married Sir John Clifton and whose son Sir Gervase Clifton was Baron Clifton in 1608 ; It is unclear which of his marriages this daughter came from.

On the occasion of the coronation of Anne Boleyn , King Henry VIII made him Knight of the Bath on May 30, 1533 .

In 1536 he supported his relative Edward Stanley, 3rd Earl of Derby , in suppressing the Catholic rebellion known as the " Pilgrimage of Grace ".
